WINDMILLS AND CANALS IN THE NETHERLANDS


The Netherlands is located in Western Europe
and is well known for its windmills and canals. 

What exactly are windmills?

Windmills originated in Persia.
They are known f
or pumping water and grinding
 grain. Unfortunately, 
they do kill birds in their path.

What are canals?

Canals are man-made waterways used for thousands
of years, to irrigate, transport and supply water to an
area.
There are 165 canals in Amsterdam, Holland.

The canals of Amsterdam give the city a very picturesque
 appearance. The canals are also used for tourism, houseboats,
recreation and more. 

Unfortunately, a small percentage of people, fall into the canals.
Some canals have ledges for safety.
